Don't.
05.26.00, take two
I'm so incredibly sick of this back and forth between MP3 addicts who feel they are doing nothing wrong, and the music industry who feels that they are nothing better than freeloading pirates.
Yes, I have MP3s on my hard drive. I think three of them aren't represented on CDs I own. (2 remixes and 1 track from an as-yet unreleased album, which I am anxiously awaiting.) I like the idea of Napster because it saves me having to make my own MP3s. I use a Mac, and there are NO free rippers. I will eventually buy one (I'm *really* liking SoundJam, but I'm sort-of being financially cautious at the moment, so I can't really shell out $40 for something that I don't desperately need. (I'll do it before we go to Buffalo for the weekend, though. I'd spaz without music, and it's WAAAY more convenient to lug the laptop than a walkman, CD player, tapes, CDs, batteries, and any other chunks I need to entertain myself.)
I have an enormous collection of old vinyl and tapes that I can't afford to replace on CD. If someone has ripped these things, why should I not get a copy of the MP3? All of those old records and tapes were paid for, at a proper record store. I avoid used vinyl because it gets damaged so easily, and you never know how bad the rice crispies will be. (I also don't have a working turntable; I got rid of my old one when we moved, lured by the promise of a GOOD stereo, with an amp, and all of the components as individual items, so we could be audiophiles about it.)

Reprieve. The show was cancelled last night. We didn't find out why. I went to bed around 8:30. I have declared yesterday an 11 out of 10 on the suck-o-meter. (Though I did get a few appreciative glances yesterday.. what a novel experience! I'm not used to that anymore.)
