Why do I dislike certain large software corporations? Not because of any monopoly, or the fact that their software isn't as good as it's cracked up to be, but because their software has the temerity to drop 500k of crap into my root directory just because a file opened their damn browser accidentally. I haven't deleted it because I really do belive in testing pages in all available browsers, but even so!

I mean, 500k isn't much when you've got 4.5 gigs available on a 6 gig drive, but it's the principle of the thing. Did I ask it to put all of these files in the center of my nicely organized harddrive? No. Did it ask me if it could create a folder, and fill it with this crap? No. If it did, I might have chosen a more hidden location (like, within the program's folder, perhaps?) and not minded. But Noooo.. it has to be right where I can see it, annoying me.

If they can't program something a little less sloppy, I don't see why I should feel compelled to use it, even on my wintel box at work.

Whoa.. just found a 976k folder of prefs for the damn thing in my system folder, not in the prefs folder. Yeesh! There are all of these *accepted* conventions on where to put things on a Macintosh system, but this company can't be bothered with *that* sort of thing, I guess.

And, it claimed 5 megs of my HD, in advance, for a cache. *grumble* I can understand that, but can't it wait until I actually -go online- and use it to see stuff.

Just found the prefs file for the program itself. A light 40k. Why are there all of these seperate components scattered all over the place? Geez.. THIS has got to be why you can't actually delete anything on a PC without worrying about toasting the entire thing.
